Economist by profession, Raj Mohabeer is currently working at the Indian Ocean Commission General Secretariat since 2000. Prior to this period, he was working as Economist at the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development. He currently holds the post of Officer in Charge of Economic Affairs with the portfolio of economic cooperation, trade, regional integration and infrastructure and maritime security.
During his current post, Mr Mohabeer, having extensive and deep knowledge of the region, has been contributing to the further advancement of regional integration and closely working with neighbouring regional organisations in a varied number of areas, from regional integration, promotion of trade, economic cooperation and maritime security, improvement of natural resources one of which is fisheries and environment management. He is also in charge for the promotion of the interest of Small Island Developing States.
