ESG Advisor AIIM/Old Mutual Alternative Investments (OMAI)
Tania has over 21 years of broad-based environmental experience and as part of the AIIM’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) practice, she is responsible for providing oversight across AIIM’s activities in transaction and asset management. Prior to joining AIIM in October 2018, Tania spent over 11 years at Environmental Resources Management (ERM). There she was a Principal Consultant in ERM’s contaminated land management and impact assessment and planning teams and served as National Team Lead for both. She served on the Board of Directors at ERM Southern Africa from 2012 to 2018.
Her years of experience in both the impact assessment and planning and contaminated land arenas in the oil and gas, mining, ports, transport and renewables sectors provides her with a strong technical background in environmental, social, health and safety (ESHS) best practice combined with a keen understanding of the regulatory framework in South Africa. Her experience spans environmental and social impact assessments (ESIAs), environmental management programmes (EMPs), stakeholder engagement (public participation), Environmental and Social (ES) screenings, risk assessments, ES due diligence, Environmental, Social Management Systems (ESMS), remedial system implementation and monitoring, groundwater monitoring, geotechnical investigations, and rural water supply and sanitation studies. Tania has a working knowledge of international standards and guidelines on identifying and managing environmental, social and governance issues including the Equator Principles, IFC Performance Standards, IFC EHS Guidelines, UNPRI, ILO Core Standards and King IV in South Africa.
At AIIM, Tania plays an integral role in embedding ESG in the investment life cycle, analysing ESG risks and opportunities and supporting assets in their ESG journey. She helps drive ESG performance by supporting asset managers and portfolio company management teams and as such is a member of ESG board subcommittees for several of AIIM’s portfolio assets.
